Mitsubishi Develops Veggie-Growing Containers
Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. has developed vegetable growing shipping containers.
The insulated 40-foot containers are equipped with water-circulation systems and LED lighting. It’s possible to supply these containers with solar panels and lithium-ion battery to make them utilize abundant solar energy.
In future, the plant growing machines will utilize solar energy alone. Mitsubishi Chemical suggest that the plant can harvest about 50 leaf vegetables such as lettuce per day.
The first plant from the company will head to Qatar in April 2010.
