New Crime Technology: Electromagnetic Pulse Gun

High speed chases by the police, as seen in those heart-stopping Hollywood thrillers, could be over.

Scientists at Eureka Aerospace have designed an electromagnetic pulse gun – High Power Electromagnetic System (HPEMS) – which emits a high-intensity electrical pulse to disable a car’s microprocessor system, shutting down all of its systems. Right now the prototype (see video) is too bulky but there are plans to shrink it to hand-held proportions.

Some form of this technology has been implemented in OnStar-equipped vehicles where the electromagnetic signal is beamed via satellite, and doesn’t cripple the in-car computer, but rather put it in a mode so that police can easily catch the fleeing criminal.

Developing this crime technology is good news as high speed chases often endangers the police officers’ lives and results in collateral damage to public properties.

Just make sure this new technology doesn’t fall in the wrong hands or the criminals develop a more advanced car-stopper, else it could be the police cars which are immoblised!
