Android Developers Ripped Off by Porn and Inferior Apps
Android users are spoiled for choice when it comes to downloading apps. But for Android developers, they aren’t faring so well.
According to TheRegister, Android developers are facing a tough time profiting from their Android app programming exploits due to two things in particular: porn and an ultra-liberal approach to app approval.
– Google’s laissez faire approach to gate keeping means quality stuff are hidden by porn and inferior apps, while a lack of enforcement is allowing publishers’ software to get ripped off by pirates.
– The consultant found 49% of publishers earning less than they’d expected from the Android Market. 27% are making more and 24% about what they’d expected. Those unhappy with their income blamed Google’s absence of quality controls and promotional support.
– Around half said the Apple’s App Store was better than Android’s Market. Blackberry App World, Windows Mobile Marketplace, Palm App Catalogue and Ovi all rated worse among devs who expressed an opinion. This data point also reveals another interesting fact: a high number of Android developers also building for the iPhone or iPad.
Well, if the developers aren’t kept happy, it is hard to see how Google’s Android is going to overtake Apple’s dominant position.
