Samsung Galaxy S3 Breaks Record Before Official Launch
Samsung Galaxy S3 is gonna be another huge winner, possibly in a league of its own, if pre-order figures are any indication.
Before its official launch, the Samsung Galaxy S3 has already become the most pre-ordered smartphone in history. On launch day, it will become fastest selling gadget at nine million units – beating Apple iPhone 4S four million in 3 days.
The S3′s predecessor – the Galaxy S2 – took about six months to sell 10million phones, and 11 months to sell 20 million. The sales also tops iPad’s two million tablets in two months, and Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect 2.5 million units in 25 days.
This phenomenal record is also a victory for Android as more users could switch over to the OS. For Apple, its next iPhone is expected to launch around October with a larger four-inch screen.
No doubt, the response will be good but with Samsung setting the bar so high, iPhone 5 has no choice but to scale new heights. Any sales figure well below Samsung’s 9 million units on opening day will be seen as a failure.
While the smartphone battle is shaping up into a two horse race with Samsung and Apple accounting for 50% of worldwide sales, Nokia Lumia and HTC One cannot be underestimated. Let’s hope iPhone 5 is not just a “minor” upgrade over iPhone 4S and it will prove once again that where cool gadgets go, it is still consumers’ first choice.
