Why Should You Call For Action?

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Some folks think that calls for action just plain cheesy, but they work. Here are three simple reasons for their effectiveness.

1. Usability

If your page is designed well, with little distractions, a callout will gain the attention of the customers - making it obvious where they can click to navigate, download, register, etc. There’s nothing worse than getting a visitor’s attention, then losing them because they don’t know where to click next.

2.  Options

Just as important, visitors will often come to your site because they landed there from a search, it’s important to provide them a path to continue your relationship. They may have found what they are looking for, but offering them something else can keep them coming back!

3. Curiosity

There’s a certain percentage of users who just like to click on stuff. Providing a nice bold callout can provide them with the target they’re looking for. Additionally, it could bring you a new sale.

If a call to action with a bold callout isn’t on your check list when creating a website or email, be sure to add it today.

Read Web Host Reviews Before Changing

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

I will be renewing my web host soon. I’m tired of renewing my webhost monthly so I am going for a long term payment now.

I’m planning to move to another webhost because I’m not satisfied with their customer support. What I want now is to enjoy features and services I haven’t experienced from my current host.

I could try every webhost recommended by my co-bloggers but I don’t want to waste my time for “trial and errors”. I’ve checked on web hosting reviews and proved that my current webhost is not included in their top ten webhost list.

I will go for those who are ranked high in many reviews, there must be a reason for them being so popular.

What Is Twitter All About?

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

You have heard of Twitter but don’t know what it is. Don’t worry, you are not alone.

You can think of Twitter as a social network but it is less rigid than Digg or StumbleUpon. The system allows you to create you own micro communities, and your actions inside those communities will not affect people outside of them. Every member behaves in a haphazard manner and there is no control over what happens to anyone at any point of time.

The basic concept is a winner: each user has the right to decide who he will follow, who will be able to follow him, and what micro communities he will join. You can’t go wrong with democracy right?

Suppose now, you start a marketing campaign on Twitter, users not following you will not notice your existence, while those who are following can simply remove the follow to stop receiving your nuisance messages. But if your promotional messages are done right, your fans will still follow you.

Some people have taken to using Twitter as a micro blogging tool. Others use it as an instant messaging utility. Others yet use the tool to promote their websites, and some people are even trying to sell their Twitter accounts on eBay!

Be creative and you can think of even more ways to use Twitter. There are immense financial rewards if you do become the next Twitter king.

How To Choose A Domain Name For Your Blog?

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

I do not usually pay attention to domain names. I know it is a lucrative business given that some names attract substantial amount of traffic which can be monetized. But I never believed that I have the knack or resources to engage in the domain name business.

For my own blogs, I choose any name which sounds good and from traffic indications (meaning zero hits), it seems to be special to me alone. There are of course certain techniques involved in choosing a proper domain name, whether you want to park it and milk the residual advertisement income or start a personal/business blog.

The question on how to choose a domain name for your blog is best answered by Problogger. In that very detailed post, he mentioned about the goals, target audience, keywords, branding, future trends, name length, memorability, legal issues, similar domains, hypens, dot coms, etc.

If you master what all the pointers, you are now ready to hunt for diamonds in the rough. I know that the prices some domain marketers or owners are willing to pay is incredibly high, once you have been to domain name auctions.

So if you secure a domain name which can generate traffic on its own, you are on to something good. Like real estate, it is a prime asset for you.

Patience Needed To Succeed In Blogging

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Most successful blogs had been active for quite a long time. Of course, the definition of success varies according to individuals. But taking the technorati top 100 or the very best blogs in your niche areas, you will notice that there is a minimum of 2 years before they experience an exponential spike in readers.

Of course, some blogs, through luck, excellent content and shrewd marketing, rise through the ranks faster. If you have neither of the three qualities in abundance, take a long term approach and stick to it. You can’t go wrong with patience. Traffic will come, and with it, lots of money.

Advertisers Must Lower Expectations Of Alexa Ranking

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Advertisers have to lower their expectations when it comes to alexa ranking. John Chow reported on his site a change in ranking system by alexa.

Like everybody else, his blog is affected but he has little complaints. Because his blog has been established to such a popularity level that PR and alexa ranking doesn’t hurt his earnings any more.

Previously, Alexa only consider users who downloaded and installed alexa toolbar. This did not sufficiently capture the traffic data as certain segments, like make money or affiliate marketing tend to show higher alexa ranking than technology websites where the users are more savvy and believe the alexa toolbar to be nothing more than a piece of spyware.

No doubt, the change is a positive move as the ranking is now a more accurate reflection of internet traffic for blogs and websites. But as bloggers, we have to do more promotion and marketing to drive traffic which can help us to push or even maintain the existing alexa ranking.

At this point of time, I think advertisers who strictly look at alexa ranking to determine a blog’s popularity have to appreciate the change, else a lot of websites may suffer as a result.

Ace Exams With Premium Papers

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

I did not score that well during my school days - the research papers were the killers. I know of many people who have little time to write their custom essay, term papers and dissertations. It could be due to job pressures, family reasons, or boy-girl relationships.

This problem can now be overcome easily with Premium-paper. They are a professional writing, editing and proofreading service which cater to students of all levels. This is important as you do not want college papers for a university submission. Of course, there are some ethical issues involved when the custom written essay did not originate from you, even if it complies with copyright and plagiarism issues.

The writers from Premium-paper start from scratch, and the essay is not sold but belong exclusively to you. Nobody will know you are using this service. Even if you want to write your own essay, you can still use their written assignments as a sample or research guide. You can gauge the standard required for an A+ paper.

The good news for a website owner or blogger is that custom essays can also be professionally written by the company. If you are busy, you can use their service but for now, I prefer to write my own content.

What Is Your Experience of Digg?

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

I have wondered why some posts get digged more than others. It seems that there are groups of digg users who help some articles to score and get onto the front page.

I first knew about their presence from forums and you can join these groups and send articles to them for some digging. Bloggers can benefit from the exposure in terms of adsense earnings, traffic, subscribers, alexa ranking, back links, etc.

Certainly, this is manipulation of articles (and even cheating) to gain popularity, but I found that the standard of diggs have not decreased substantially as a result. There is a bury button if you do not like the article for either its junk or excessively-promotional content. Overall, I still enjoy the home page reads. What is your experience of digg?

I Just Love Writing

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

The more I write on this blog, the more I love it. It is a joy keeping track of my events and knowing that people can see what is going on in my life too, even if they are far away.

We can communicate through comments. I love reading other people’s blogs that I care about and seeing the things that they are interested in and hearing their stories. I love how sites can be personalized, and people can write about whatever they want without getting interupted with someone else’s opinion.

If you don’t like writing, what are the reasons? You can use blogger or wordpress and taking the first steps is easy. I can do it, so can you, just do it…
