<p>A new HDTV technology has been launched with great potential of competing with plasma, LED, LCD and DLP.</p>
<p>Meant for larger screens, Prysm’s Laser Phosphor Display (LPD) technology uses a series of modulated laser beams reflected by mirrors to create the high-defintion picture. The technology is similar to laser printers except that the LPD refereshes images rapidly to create the video effect.</p>
<p>I like the fact that the new HDTV is eco-friendly as non-toxic materials are used. It also supposedly uses 75% less energy than established LCD, and plasma technologies.</p>
<p>“Prysm’s technology addresses the key segment of large-area displays with the promise of low power operation and scalability,” said Paul Semenza, SVP at display research firm DisplaySearch. “This type of technology could open up new markets in consumer and professional applications.”</p>
<p>There are no details yet about when screens using the technology will hit retail stores.</p>
